How do I find the room key for the girl in Lake Valor?

I've already looked up this question, and none have really helped. I'm looking on the dowsing machine, and i'm walking in front of the entrance of lake valor [where the woman heals your pokemon] and i'm not seeing any dots on the machine. Is there anything else I need to do to find it?
