If my college transcript has two failed cles and two dropped cles, can I still get into a university?

I know it sounds like I am a horrible student, but I am not. My first semester at a community college I had a few personal issues. I basically failed or dropped most of my cles. My mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor and I had to take care of her and take her to all the doctor's appointments so I found myself leaving cl or staying home to help with things. All of the other cles that I have taken are A's but I have been told that I will not get accepted even with good grades now. My GPA is 3.6 as of now and I just wanna know if there is hope or if I should just forget about it. All I want is a second chance because I love school so much and I look forward to furthering my education. Is there any hope?
