How to create a media center pc that boots up almost instantaneously like xbox?

I am a complete noob when it comes to pc hacking. I understand you can create an xmbc or boxee media center by installing the relevant software on a pc and connecting it to the television. Would it be possible load the media center lmost instantaneouly like the real xbox? Why is xbox able to do it and how can i do it too?
